Our Story
Born through lived experience.
Liberated Prisoners, Inc. was not born in a boardroom. It was born through incarceration, family separation, childhood trauma, poverty, perseverance, education, ministry, advocacy, and the transformative power of genuine human connection.
Founder and President Pastor Gairy Castor entered prison carrying a life sentence. During incarceration he devoted himself to legal study, ministry, mentorship, and service. His legal efforts ultimately overturned the life sentence and created a pathway to freedom. During a period of release while the case remained in litigation, he established the framework for Liberated Prisoners, Inc. and secured federal nonprofit recognition.
The organization’s history also reflects Susan Castor’s steadfast faith and administrative continuity, Samuel Moore’s decades of educational mentorship, J.D. Ward Payne’s legal advocacy and stewardship, Jason Collins’s ministry partnership, and the service of trusted spiritual and technical supporters.
